Event detail for site:pre 1282: FoundationAccording to the sixteenth-century antiquary, John Leland (d. 1552), there was a Cistercian house at Clynnog Fawr that was later a collegiate church. However more substantial evidence for its Cistercian identity is lacking. If there was ever a Cistercian house at Clynnog Fawr it did not have a long monastic life for by 1291 it was a collegiate church.
