c. 1400: Glyn Dŵr rebellion

The Llantarnam community supported Owain Glyn Dŵr's rebellion.

In 1405 the abbot of Llantarnam, John ab Hywel, who was a nationalist, joined the Welsh at the Battle of Bryn Buga when they attacked Usk Castle. He heard the rebels' confessions before the fighting but was himself killed in the onslaught.
