Priors of Llangennith

A list of the known priors of Llangennith

William Gabriel(e): occurs as prior in the early thirteenth century and also in 1231x47.

Thomas: occurs as prior on 31 May 1300.

John Pelagay: occurs as prior in January 1337xJanuary 1338.

William de Pire, monk of St Taurin, was on 8 March 1350 granted custody of the priory during the French war.

Richard de Fonte (de la Fountaigne): occurs as prior in October 1371 and February 1379.
On 8 May 1381 Richard, as a monk of St Taurin, was granted custody of Llangennith. View details

Richard de Augo (Du, Duy, Dw): 1400-1412.
Richard was a monk of St Taurin. On 22 February 1401 Richard was admitted as prior and the monastery was restored to him. He was granted the keeping of the priory in February 1403 and had died by 20 December 1412.

Richard ap Morgan: 1412-1423.
Richard was a monk of Savigny and had died by 6 July 1423.

Robert Bridport: 1423-?
A Benedictine monk, he was presented to Llangennith by the monks of St Taurin and was granted custody of the priory by the king in July of that year. Robert surrendered custody of the house in November 1430 and the king granted custody of the priory to two clerks.

By 1434 lay farmers had control of the priory.
