Display person:

Winebald de Baeluns (Ballon; Balun) , lord of Caerleon

Winebald was a leading noble in the late eleventh / early twelfth centuries and a benefactor of St Peter's, Gloucester, Montacute Priory and Bermondsey.

Winebald's family seat was in Ballon, some twelve miles north of Le Mans, and Winebald was likely born there. Both he and his brother, Hamelin, helped subjugate Wales and were rewarded for their efforts. Hamelin received Abergavenny and Winebald, the lordship of Caerleon.
